PETER DUBRUEL (PhD) is heading the Polymer Chemistry and Biomaterials Groups (Ghent University, Faculty of Sciences, Department of Organic Chemistry). He obtained his PhD in the field of non-viral polymeric gene delivery in January 2003. As a junior post-doc, he has been working on the coating of porous titanium scaffolds using thin hydrogel coatings. As doctor-assistant at Ghent University he pursued this field of research. In 2005, he was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship to perform cell culture work on biomaterials at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz (Germany). In October 2006, he received a permanent position at the Ghent University. Since then he is involved in 2 European projects (FW6 and FW7) and various national projects (SBO, Collective Research, TETRA, FOD, …)


SANDRA VAN VLIERBERGHE (PhD) obtained here PhD at Ghent University in 2008 within the field of the development and characterisation of porous hydrogels which are obtained by cryogenic treatment. She demonstrated the potential of those hydrogels as cell carriers for tissue engineering applications. At present she is working as FWO post-doc on the development on implantable hydrogel coated retinal implants.


TIM DESMET & JORG SCHELFHOUT are both performing a PhD in which the Bioplotter technology is applied to produce porous biomaterials. Tim Desmet is developing porous polyesters to be applied for meniscus repair. Jorg Schelfhout if developing porous hydrogels for cardio-vascular applications.
